Monday and Tuesday, I led the older students in teaching. They loved it.

Wednesday, I got to float in the morning. Then lunchtime came, and I was led to a different classroom, but I knew them very well.

Thursday, I cover for a group of little ones. They were a handful. I got a cup of Starbucks coffee from one of my coworkers.

Friday, I was led to the same class as Monday. It was easy.

Please help raise money for my job. It's the annual fund.

Why you should donate

MDE is a nonprofit school that serves students with special needs who can't be at a traditional school because they suffer from profound language-based learning disabilities such as autism, down syndrome, and Cerebral Palsy. Tuition only covers a portion of the program cost, not being able to have a fundraiser in person when COVID-19 happened, they did not get a lot of money, and students were delayed. They try to keep their tuition as low as possible so parents of special needs kids can have additional expenses to take care of their child. I chose to work here because they remind me of Stratford Friends School in many ways. I decided to be part of this work because I have many relatives who are cousins, etc., that are just like the student profile. MDE is unique because they keep this ratio of the teachers tiny so students can achieve their potential. My job here is as a floating teacher, meaning I do not have an assigned class and go where needed. I either cover type like a substitute, or I get to pick where I want to go for classrooms and hang out with the students.

This week I was covering a class for a short time or the entire day. Or I was floating around. Helping where I could. Saw how students reacted to not having their teacher be there for four hours. I got my patient tired today, especially. It was the fall festival which was a lot of fun. Then I had to cover a class where a very talkative student liked instigating problems. They did give me pizza because it was the fall festival. The students had a choice of wearing costumes today. Then I went to cover another class, and the teacher told them they had to stay seated and watch what was on the iPad. The iPad died, and one student riled up the other student, and they were testing my patience. I need a stern voice today. This week, I got a cinnamon roll from one of the teachers. A student told their teacher that they missed me in class. They can also wear costumes on Monday.
